August 9 is the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. A day to recognize the rich cultures, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous communities around the world.

In Guatemala, where over 40% of the population is Indigenous, many children face systemic barriers to quality education. The Guatemala Literacy Project (GLP) is working to change that by empowering Indigenous youth through sustainable education programs that help break the cycle of poverty.

From textbooks and teacher training to scholarships and technology centers, GLP’s work equips Indigenous students with the skills and opportunities they need to continue their education and build brighter futures, with many becoming the first in their families to complete high school.

Every GLP program is designed to open doors to learning and employment, fostering opportunity, and long-term impact.
